Philippines’ Health Secretary Francisco Duque III confirmed Sunday the second coronavirus-acute respiratory disease (2019-nCoV-ARD) case, and first death in the country and outside China. In a press conference in Quezon City, Duque said the 44-year-old Chinese male companion of the first confirmed case of the novel coronavirus in the country, a 38-year-old Chinese woman, also tested positive for the virus and died yesterday (Saturday) due to nCoV. Part of Skyway Stage 3 collapses amid fire in Pandacan warehouse

MANILA- A portion of the Skyway Stage 3 in Pandacan, Manila collapsed under the heat of a massive fire that struck at a nearby warehouse, Saturday.  A still undetermined length of the overhead roadway gave way as the blaze raged at a plastics warehouse on Tomas Claudio Street, Pandacan, Manila.  The affected portion is on a part of the Skyway still under construction.  “It’s a portion of Skyway Stage 3 parapet that was damaged. MANILA  – The Philippines on Thursday confirmed its first case of the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV).  In a press conference, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said a 38-year-old Chinese patient from Wuhan, China, the epicenter of the outbreak, was confirmed to be infected with the virus following a laboratory test in Australia.  “The DOH is confirming that a 38-year-old female Chinese patient under investigation (PUI) is positive for the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) after her lab results arrived today from the Victorian Infectious Disease Reference Laboratory in Melbourne, Australia,” Duque said.  The woman arrived in Manila via Hong Kong on Jan. 21. DPWH completes P96.50 M road dike project in Gubat, Sorsogon

THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said Tuesday it completed a P36-million regional evacuation center in Catbalogan, Samar and the P96.50-million road dike project in Gubat, Sorsogon. The DPWH said the new regional evacuation center in Catbalogan, Samar has been turned over to the local government. “Assistant District Engineer Ruben D. delos Reyes of DPWH Samar 2nd District Engineering Office led the turnover ceremony of the new facility together with representatives from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Regional Office 8 and local officials of Catbalogan City,” the department said in a statement Tuesday. Makati donates P18 million to calamity-hit areas

MAKATI, Philippines — The city government of Makati would donate over P18 million to towns affected by the onslaught of Typhoon Tisoy and earthquakes that hit parts of Mindanao. In a statement, Makati said the city council approved the donation through Ordinance 2020-023, wherein the Makati Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) recommended the release of the money from the city’s quick response fund. The provinces of Quezon, Albay, Camarines Sur, Masbate, Sorsogon and Northern Samar would receive P1 million each while the provinces of Oriental Mindoro and Catanduanes would be given P500,000.
