Casiguran town in Sorsogon buys fishermen’s daily catch and sells these to residents for 20% to 30% lower than the market price ALBAY, Philippines – Residents of Casiguran town in Sorsogon province get to buy seafoods at lower prices, as part of the local government’s response to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) crisis. WHO names deadly virus from China as ‘COVID-19’

The UN health agency on Tuesday announced that “COVID-19” will be the official name of the deadly virus from China, saying the disease represented a “very grave threat” for the world but there was a “realistic chance” of stopping it. “We now have a name for the disease and it’s COVID-19,” World Health Organization chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told reporters in Geneva. Tedros said that “co” stands for “corona”, “vi” for “virus” and “d” for “disease”, while “19” was for the year, as the outbreak was first identified on December 31. LEGAZPI CITY –- The Regional Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council (RDRRMC) and the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) have raised the Blue alert status in the Bicol Region due to the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), an official said Friday. Agri Dept. disburses P2.25B in loans for farmers affected by rice price drop

The Department of Agriculture (DA) said Thursday it has disbursed a total of P2.249 billion in loan assistance for rice farmers affected by the drop in palay prices in light of the Rice Tariffication Law. 4 nabbed for illegal logs, unlicensed gun in Sorsogon

LEGAZPI CITY — Four persons were arrested for transporting illegal logs, while one of them was carrying unlicensed gun in Gubat town in Sorsogon province Friday afternoon, police said Saturday. Colonel Roque Bausa, director of Sorsogon police, said suspects Ramon Equipado, Retchie Funelas, Demdem Quiray, and Christopher Brin were arrested around 5:30 p.m. at Payawin village in the said town. Authorities confiscated 24 pieces of narra lumber worth about P170,000. While conducting the search, authorities also found a caliber 9mm gun with two magazines and 10 live ammunition from Equipado, the driver of the Isuzu elf truck, which was used to transport the illegal lumber./lzb By: Ma.
